National Organization for Rare Diseases 2014 Annual Conference - Call for Abstracts

Scientific Poster Session - Abstracts due July 18:

Academics, researchers, industry, government agencies, health care professionals, patient organizations and any other interested parties that have conducted rare disease or orphan product research studies or public health projects are invited to submit a poster abstract to NORD'Rare Disease and Orphan Products Breakthrough Summit. The overall theme of the poster sessions is “Life-Transforming Treatments.” The suggested specific topic areas fall within the following four themes: Innovative Research, Medical Education Advancement, Patient Community Building, and Other Topics.

MedTech Innovator $100K Competition - Apply by May 19

University-stage technologies and early-stage medical device companies are encouraged to apply for the  2014 MedTech Innovator Competition, to be held during the Wilson Sonsini (WSGR) Medical Device Conference on June 12 in San Francisco. The winner will receive a $100,000 cash prize, and 10 semi-finalists will get complimentary conference registration and be featured on-stage. In addition to the $100K prize, the winner will also get a presentation slot and complimentary full access registration to the AdvaMed 2014 conference, a presenting slot at an upcoming IN3 Medical Device conference, and will be profiled in an upcoming issue of Informa's monthly magazine START-UP: The Review of Emerging Medical Ventures.

"Empowering the Next Generation of Medical Innovators"

The Rosenman Institute, a new UCSF initiative to promote medical device innovation and entrepreneurship, is holding a Launch Symposium on Wednesday, June 4. The Institute is named for the late Dan Rosenman, a biomedical engineer and active volunteer with the PDC.

The symposium will inspire clinicians to innovate; introduce the resources available at the Rosenman Institute; and enable entrepreneurs to share their stories and their perspectives on the future of medical device innovation. It will also provide an opportunity for networking with entrepreneurs, physicians, investors, biomedical engineers, mentors and representatives of major device companies.
