A personalized and lightweight brace for pectus carinatum

The Problem

Pectus carinatum is a condition that affects 1 in every 1,000 teenagers and more than 200,000 individuals overall in the U.S. Bracing has been shown to be effective at correcting the deformity. However, current fabrication processes are a laborious and resource-intensive process for providers, and patients struggle with compliance due to the prominence and appearance of the device under clothing, weight, discomfort, and difficulty sleeping. Additionally, patient access to braces is limited to areas with specialized orthotic services.

The Solution

UNYQ's proprietary technology platform for production of custom medical devices and additive manufacturing is being utilized to produce custom and personalized pectus carinatum braces. The technology will save providers time and money and improve patients' comfort, compliance, satisfaction, and outcomes. 

Under Development

The device team was awarded a $20,000 PDC Accelerator award in November 2017. They have since enrolled pilot users to test prototypes and provide feedback for iteration.
