Pediatric Device Accelerator - 2017

The UCSF Pediatric Device Accelerator combines seed funding with customized clinical, engineering, regulatory, business, and product development advising from experienced innovators and industry leaders to help drive promising pediatric device ideas towards market availability for patient benefit.


Award

  • Up to $50,000 per project (a total of $250,000 available)
  • Advising, prototyping support, and commercialization coaching by the UCSF PDC and industry partners

Eligibility

The competition is open to academic, business, or independent inventors with a promising pediatric device idea at any stage of development that, if accepted, is willing to invest the necessary time to work with the UCSF PDC and its advisors to develop their idea into a marketable product. Selected finalists must be available to present at our pitch competition in San Francisco on Tuesday, November 14, 2017.

The device must meet the FDA definition of a medical device and must be intended for use in the pediatric population (birth to 21).

Projects that have been funded by another FDA-funded Pediatric Device Consortia within the past calendar year are not eligible. Funding status will be confirmed prior to finalist notification.

Timeline

  • Letter of Intent period: September 21 - October 13, 2017
  • Finalists notified: October 20
  • Full proposal period: October 20 - November 8
  • Pitch Competition: November 14, 6:00 PM in San Francisco, CA
  • Project period: December 2017 - November 2018

Application Process

Submit a Letter of Intent by Friday, October 13, 2017 at 5:00 PM PDT. The application includes a brief summary of the project, covering the unmet clinical need, technology proposed, development status, assistance needed, project team, and funding status. All applications will be evaluated and notified of next steps by October 20.
